Student Assignment Guidelines

All children residing in Paulding County are required to enroll in the school of the attendance area in which they reside, unless special authorization is given by the Superintendent or designee. Attendance areas (school zones) are designated by the Board of Education. 

The District will not provide transportation for a student attending school outside his/her attendance area, unless the student is assigned to another school as a part of his/her Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Special needs students will be assigned to schools from the district office level based on which schools have the programs needed to implement the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). 



Information about the School Choice Law (House Bill 251)

Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, parents of students enrolled in a public elementary or secondary school in Georgia may elect to enroll their child in a school that is located within the school system in which the student resides other than the one to which the student has been assigned by the local board of education, providing a school has classroom space available after its assigned students have been enrolled. The parent shall assume the responsibility and cost of transportation of the student to and from the school. In compliance with HB 251, the Paulding County School District has provided notification and information about the District's process. Applications will be made available at 5:00 PM on February 28, 2014. The deadline for submission will be the close of business (5:00 PM) March 14, 2014. Hardship School Transfer

The hardship application is now available.

Parents/guardians of students requesting a hardship transfer from one attendance zone to another within the Paulding County School District must submit a completed application to the Paulding County School District either electronically (link below) or by mail.  Hard copies of the application form may be picked up from your child’s school or downloaded from this site.

All applications for hardship transfers must be submitted electronically/postmarked by August 29, 2014.

Completed applications should include an explanation of the reason(s) for the request.  Once received, applications will be reviewed by the Hardship Transfer Committee.  A hardship transfer request may be denied if the request is not a true hardship.  Transfer requests may also be denied due to:

·  Lack of available permanent classroom space in the school to which the student requested a transfer;

·  Excessive absences, tardies, early sign-outs or late pick-ups of the student; Behavior;

·  Insufficient reasons to warrant the move (disagreement with school administration or staff is not sufficient reason for a transfer to be granted);

·  Falsification of records;

·  Other good and sufficient cause as determined by the Hardship Committee

Following review by the Hardship Transfer Committee, parents/guardians will be notified when their request for transfer has been approved, conditionally approved, or denied. 

Students approved for hardship transfer may not ride a school bus to or from school.  Transportation must be provided for students approved to attend out of their home district under a hardship transfer.  In addition, students approved for a hardship school transfer must display acceptable behavior, attendance, and a cooperative/ productive relationship between home and school must be maintained in order for transfers to remain valid.  High school students must meet the rules of the Georgia High School Association in order to participate in extracurricular activities.
